Let's talk about one of the most effective ways to super charge your skin care routine . A skin care regimen is important in maintaining a youthful appearance. It took a long time for me to jump on a routine skin care regimen. The hardest part for me was staying consistent. But just like with anything else you have to create habits around your routine to help them stick. From there you will start seeing results.
First thing first, start with a clean canvas - your face. Cleansing your face thoroughly removes dirt, oil, and impurities allowing the subsequent products to penetrate better into your skin. I always say opt for a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type. My favorite at the moment is Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleanser. This cleanser works well with my mature skin and makes my skin feel squeaky clean.
Skin care has definitely became my jam once I hit my 40's. I barely miss a day or night. It's part of my lifestyle and my routine. And of course I wish I would have started sooner. But the real accomplishment is starting.
Creating a great skin care routine is the best part of obtaining great skin - and part of aging like a rockstar. So I've gotten pretty good at searching the best deals that are actually worth it. Yet makes my skin feel youthful, with a glow and plump again.
Because I am an Amazon one click junkie I started realizing how many options for skincare that are available. And the results are astounding. Enough to overwhelm the average person. So I'm here to the rescue to help you navigate through this world of skincare and life as we know it.
There are to many brands to name in one post, so I've dedicated a category to skin care just for you.
When learning what products work for your skin it's important to first evaluate your skin initially without any type of skin products applied. Once you establish what type of skin type you have then you can begin your process.
Evaluating Your Skin
Evaluate if you have any specific skin concerns. Establishing if you have normal, combination, or oily skin is also important when analyzing your skin. Here are some steps to help you evaluate your skin.
Skin Care Layering C
are Layering
So, what exactly is skincare layering? It's the process of applying multiple skincare products in a specific order to maximize their benefits. Think of it as building a solid foundation for your skin, one product at a time.
Cleansing + Toner Combination
Using a great Cleanser and Toner combination help balance your skin's pH levels and prepare it for better absorption of the next products. Look for toners with hydrating and soothing ingredients to give your skin an extra boost. Im kind of loving the combo of Urban Skin Rx Even Tone Cleansing Bar with Urban Skin Rx Witch Hazel Brightening & pH Balancing Toner. It cleanses the skin and tones the skin leaving behind a great canvas to start the layering process.
Treatment Products
This step involves applying any targeted treatment products such as serums, acne treatments, or anti aging formulations.
Serums
Serums are packed with high concentration of active ingredients that target specific skin concerns. Whether you want to tackle fine lines, hyperpigmentation, or dullness, there's a serum out there for you. Apply your serum of choice and gently pat it into your skin for maximum absorption. My favorite right now is Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum for All Skin Types
Eye Cream
Gently dab a small amount of eye cream around the delicate eye area using your ring finger. Eye creams help hydrate, reduce puffiness, and address concerns like dark circles or fine lines.
Moisturizer
After your serums and eye creams, it's time for the holy grail of skincare- the moisturizer. Moisturizers not only hydrate your skin but also help seal in all the previous layers of products. Look for a moisturizer that suits your skin type and contains nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramide. My favorite moisturizer is Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream. It is such a great moisturizer it's a rich dewy cream thats sure to snatch your skin back into shape.
Sun Screen
But wait, we're not done yet. The final step in your skincare layering routine is sunscreen. Supergoop! Glowscreen is kinda the bomb! I haven't gotten this excited over a sunscreen in a long time but Supergoop Glowscreen is making me goo-goo-gah-gah over this sunscreen.
Sunscreen is a non-negotiable step no matter the season. It protects your skin form harmful UV rays and prevent premature aging. Opt for a board-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and apply it generously to your face and neck.
Remember, consistency is key when it comes to skincare layering. Give your skin time to adjust to the new routine and be patient-results won't happen overnight. Also, don't overload your skin with to many products at once. Start with a few key products and gradually introduce new ones. Focus on your 3 most important skins concerns and base the foundational skin care products on your concerns.
Additional tips:
-Exfoliation:
Depending on your skin type you may also incorporate exfoliation into your routine. This step involves using a gentle scrub or chemical exfoliant to remove dead skin cells and promote smoother complexion. However, be cautious not to over-exfoliate, as it can lead to irritation.
-Face Mask:
Face masks can be incorporated once or twice a week, depending on your skin's needs. Apply them after cleansing and toning, and follow the instruction provided by the specific mask you're using.
-Nighttime Routine
In the evening, you can follow the same steps mentioned above, excluding the sunscreen. Additionally, you may want to include a nigh time moisturizer or a more intensive treatment product to replenish the skin while you sleep such as a retinol.
So there you have it, my skincare-loving friends. Layering your skincare products can truly take your routine to the next level, giving you amazing results. Give it a try and let your skin glow like never before.
