What Does Self-Care Actually Mean?

I truly believe in finding delight in every moment, especially as we focus on self-assurance and personal development, all while aging gracefully.

See, I've been on this path of self-discovery, self-assurance, and healing, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer.

Through self-care and a whole lot of love, I've found a softer, gentler way of living.

Self-care is all about taking time to focus on yourself and doing things that help you feel better, both physically and mentally. It's like giving yourself a little TLC. It could be anything from getting enough sleep, eating healthy, exercising, and staying hydrated, to taking a break when you're stressed, spending time on hobbies, or even just relaxing with a good book or a movie.

It's basically anything that helps you recharge and feel more balanced. Think of it as a way to show yourself some love and keep yourself in a good place.

There is so much more to self-care, and now I want to share the blueprint with you.

So, grab a cup of tea, get cozy, and let's dive into the world of self-care, self-love, and pure joy together.

Learning To Balance Life Over 50 Using Unconventional Self-care Tactics.

As an overworked mom and wife, I know firsthand the relentless grind of daily life. 2020 was the year of the pandemic and also the year tragedy struck on another level—a devastating loss that threatened to engulf me completely. During the chaotic pandemic, I lost my oldest daughter to a drug overdose.  It was devastating! Simultaneously, my business shut down temporarily, leaving me adrift without a clear path forward. Life felt unbearable. But I couldn’t surrender. I couldn’t let my other daughter down (the daughter in my Tik Toks dancing videos @imsodliteful and @imsodlitefultv).  I also couldn't disappoint my heavenly daughter by giving up at life. So, in the midst of spiraling chaos, I turned to an unexpected outlet: Tik tok not only Tik tok but Tik Tok dancing. Yes, you read that right—I found solace and escape through TikTok dancing and skits. Not professional dancing I'm afraid.  Even though I would love to be a professional dancer!  Tik Tok became my refuge, a place where I could momentarily forget the pain and connect with others.  I learned early on that escaping reality in a healthy fashion was a form of self care.  I also worked out and received grief therapy when I wasn't online.  And I can't leave out the biggest tool in my tool box - Prayer! God’s double blessing came through, granting me a platform to share my truth and live my life in an authentic way by making the world my stage. I realized through my escape that I hadn’t been balancing work and life effectively because I hadn’t prioritized self-care and self-love. This blog is a love project—a space where women and men can come together as a community of encouragers and motivators. And encourage a each other to sit down and reflect. Our mission? To pass the torch to the next generation while nurturing our own happiness through self-care and managing our well-being ​

You know, as we stroll through the timeline of life, it's like indulging in a fine chocolate, each year adding just a touch more sweetness. It's funny how as we age, suddenly everything seems a bit more... well, precious. Taking care of yourself, enjoying every moment, and heck, having a bit of fun along the way, it's all part of the recipe for a good life.

I've noticed something as the years pass—it's not just the big things that make life beautiful, but the little ones too. Like finding joy in the simple pleasures, whether it's a stunning sunset or a hilarious joke shared with friends. And don't even get me started on spending time with my mom; that's like hitting the jackpot of heartwarming moments.

Now, here's the kicker: I've got this wild hope that my daughter is watching me age like a hawk. Not in a creepy way, mind you, but more like she's taking notes on how to live life to the fullest without giving a darn about what others think. You see, I want her to dive headfirst into life's precious moments without waiting for the perfect moment or worrying about judgmental eyes.

We're all on this rollercoaster called evolution, right? And me? Well, I plan to ride that bad boy until the wheels fall off, all while keeping it real and rocking the grace that even God would tip his hat to.

Age? Ha! It's just a number, a reminder that we've collected a few more stories and wrinkles along the way. But living your best life? Now that's where the real party's at. It's about seizing the day, being grateful for what you've got, and never backing down from being the truest version of yourself, no matter what curveballs life throws your way.
